ETA CYA
The 'Cover Your Ass' propaganda appears to have begun. Yesterday this was posted on the ETA FB Page. Now, they aren't publicly discussing all the cruises that have been canceled on Celebrity. Buty the did post a post that customers are being "bullies" and deleting any comments they deem unworthy of their positive spin. The last two days, quite a few reviews were posted that for the first time, were not 100% positive. There were posts out there on Social Media that ETA controls that discussed the cancellations; but those got deleted. So now there is basically a single post calling anyone that disagrees .. 'bullies' .
Sadly, I agree with much of what is said in their post. They've done some good things for folks over a twenty year span. Folks have done something (riding in the Islands on their own bikes) that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. I think it's all over rated as time goes on, but I've publicly stated I personally had a good time. Would have been a great time if the ETA ownership treated their customers correctly, 100% of the time.
As I look at the below.. there's a lot of spinning of the truth going on. Not sure what they keep referring to as all the lies told. Hell, I was down a month before the cruise with a serious back injury but 100% by the time of the cruise. Did I lie? My wife has severe rheumatoid arthritis and sometimes can't ride, but she was good to go for this trip. Did she lie? One of the folks in my group was in the hospital a month before with heart concerns, but 100% for the trip. Did he lie? Of course we didn't. But this company is calling many of it's customers "LIARS!" And sometimes "POS!" Who the hell does that?
I've numbered at least 3 things below in red that jump out at me.
1. What lies are we talking about? Folks with a handicap that ride as a passenger for thousands of miles a year, across the US ... can't ride here? Why not? They might be better riders/passengers than some newbies with a whole 5k miles under their belts . A few years ago, the minimum was 3k miles. Are you kidding me? That's a newbie, not experienced rider. Even a 5k'er isn't experienced. I'm guessing the ADA would like a word on this one?
2. Tie Downs. This has become my favorite. My first blog post on the subject of ETA Motorcycle Cruises, LLC was about this. Here's the bottom line. Reading below, for the FIRST TIME they admit they are needed on the ship. Apparently it's a Coast Guard Regulation. But wait. The ETA Owner told us we didn't need them. Told us we could leave them behind in our trailer. ETA keeps bringing this subject up, but they themselves are breaking the law? I do have one question though. Somebody please answer it and clarify it for me and others. HOW THE HELL DO YOU TIE DOWN THE BIKES if needed? Just Saying. Interesting note. Appears that the conversation on this subject was deleted by .. yep ..you guessed it.... ETA.
3. If you run out of gas, they say you are not left behind. Interesting. That's exactly what happened on St Maarten the day I rode. Julie Lipari's VTX1300 stalled out and she had to pull off to the shoulder. The bike at the rear for us (sweeping) left her. She was now on her own. We were miles down the road at a gas station filling up, when after a few minutes we all realized she wasn't there. I watched Wallach scrambling round in a panic asking questions. They were going to send someone back when she pulled up with two rented Spyders and their guide. Turns out she was able to get the bike started after flipping the petcock valve to reserve and eventually got it fired up again as they rolled up on her. I know .. I know.. you're thinking well that's her fault. Actually, no it's not She had told ETA the day before she was getting low on gas, had no gauge to prove it, but they refused to give her enough fuel. Bottom line is she was left behind with no fuel and no Seapass to get back on the ship. Question for you all. How'd you like it if your spouse, on an island out in the Caribbean, in the middle of crazy traffic, no phone service, no pass to get back on the cruise ship .. maybe no passport...maybe no cash, was left behind? Wait .. never mind. Apparently that never happens.
So, the spin game continues . Who knows how many comments they've deleted. I happened to get a screenshot of one before they did.
