What are the behaviors of Malignant Narcissists?
Malignant Narcissists are also know as “The Dark Triad,” because the personality has 3 distinctive parts:
- Narcissistic Personality Disorder: So they will have the usual narcissistic behaviors of grandiosity, perceived superiority, entitlement, and low empathy.
- Psychopathy: Otherwise known as Anti-Social Personality Disorder. This means they do not possess a conscience. They do not experience feelings of guilt, remorse, empathy, compassion or love. However, they are proficient actors and liars. They can very convincingly mimic these feelings and emotions. But they do not genuinely experience or feel these emotions. Because of this, they have the capacity to do evil horrible things without any reservations or internal moral restraints.
- Machiavellianism: This is the part of the personality that is exploitative, manipulative and sadistic. They are cunning and enjoy seeing other people suffer. They enjoy it even more if they are the cause of your suffering. They get pleasure from other people's pain.
The term Malignant Narcissism was coined by a social psychologist named Erich Fromm in 1964. He was a German Jew who fled the Nazi regime and settled in the US. This is the term he gave to describe the behaviors he witnessed by the Nazis. Malignant narcissism and the term evil go hand in hand. Behaviors of a malignant narcissist include exploitation of anyone or anything, nothing is sacred or off limits as long as it gets them what they want. They are pathological liars and are deeply envious of others. They are highly manipulative and deceptive. They are vengeful and if they believe you have wronged them, there is no limit to what they will do to you in order to get even. They are dangerous and delusional to the extent that they believe they are entitled to treat others in this manner. Although they cognitively know that their behavior is wrong and unacceptable, they do not have the capacity to care, and in fact, extract pleasure from inflicting pain and suffering onto others.
