Why do narcissists get mad when you ignore them?

"They seem to get very angry when you don't give them ANY reaction at all, but very pleased if you give them the 'reaction' they EXPECT. The rages usually come when you give them a 'reaction' that is totally opposite of the reaction they expected or 'needed'.
They are often extremely adept at 'provoking' or 'manipulating' a reaction from you that they can use as a 'reason' for a 'pre planned follow up action' that will APPEAR to be a 'justified victim reaction'.
By giving NO reaction to the provocation or manipulation, you have taken away their 'justification' for the 'follow up action'.
One of the most common ways they 'expose' themselves is when you give them NO reaction and they move on to the 'planned follow up action' by 'acting' as if they got a reaction that 'justified' the 'follow up'. When they try to provoke or manipulate you for an EXPECTED reaction of anger or jealousy and instead you give the total opposite reaction of ignoring them or laughing at them, you WILL get extreme anger.
They often EXPECT you to 'react' the same way THEY would 'justifiably react' if the situation or behaviors were reversed. If they don't get a reaction from their provocations or manipulations, they often try to get you to 'react' to the anger that they see you as 'provoking'.
A lot of their behaviors are designed to elicit a 'reaction' from you and then be prepared to 'punish' the 'reaction'."
